Combat. Its the thing that CRPG fans dont care about. They love the story, but they dont care about loot. The other stuff, they dont even understand. They just want to get on with the important things. Interplay knew that Middle-earth wasnt the exciting thing that its people thought. Its people that were excited about Tolkien to begin with. What the people really liked was Gandalf, and Bilbo, and Aragorn, and Frodo. Combat is his nich, and his passion. Bilbo was the great storyteller, but the stuff about Bilbo is incidental to the role: Gandalf is the important figure. Thats why Im absolutely savage in ripping on interplay for not hiring him to write a sequel.
however, if you decide to buy the dlcs separately, you will be able to access them without any problems. since this review is focused on the content of the pc version of the game, i will not be reviewing the dlcs. as mentioned earlier, the game consists of two campaigns, the first one follows the events of the war in the north, while the second follows the events of the second age of middle-earth, in which the hobbits, elves, and men of the shire live in peace with one another.
the hobbit by j.r. tolkien. i read the book a few years ago and it was ok, not my cup of tea. i read the first half of the silmarillion and loved it (and will read it again next year). i read it in 2001 and it was very different. i didnt recognize a lot of the characters and the plot flowed a little more smoothly. i also read the lord of the rings and it was awesome, i think i will always prefer the book to the movies. the hobbit is a good read. i think it helps to understand lotr a bit better. i have no doubt that if i hadnt read the hobbit i wouldnt be a fan of the lord of the rings. for me, the hobbit was more like a prequel.
