If you’re using a DNS server that doesn’t allow CName records (like OpenDNS), I created a CNAME server for www.dd-wrt.com that includes SuperChannel. It’s a single A record that points to a CNAME for that particular domain (that is, it does NOT point to the same IP address for the DD-WRT domain as for the one you’re normally visiting.)
If you are not using a DNS server that includes CName records, then the only way to view the CNAME record is to temporarily change your DNS settings to a server that does allow CName records. Now you can visit this site and see the CName record:
If the AP creates an entry in ifconfig to indicate that it is using the extra frequency instead of the standard, all you need to do is tell dd-wrt that it is using this frequency. One way to achieve this is to use the stock dd-wrt SuperChannel script. Or you can create your own script which does the same thing using ifconfig or wpa_supplicant. It simply uses another mac address for the new ap while the AP is detected by the controller and set it as the master.
What’s up guys, this is really cool. I managed to increase the channels by upgrading my router firmware from 9 to 11 (in addition to the 10 already in use). Also, the firmware version was almost exactly 2.4.63. I just got the router, so that’s why I couldn’t change my channels initially. All I did was connect it to my channel extender, and let the extender change the channels. I then changed my access point to 11 (this was the default), and changed my router firmware back to 10. I was able to go from 3 to 12 channels in total. 12 seems like a pretty good number. Should you use a channel extender? Well that’s up to you. I just wanted to share what I’ve learned about setting up multiple wireless channels.
